Prince George, B.C., September 5, 2008 -- Barker Minerals Ltd. ("BML" on TSX/V) Louis Doyle, President and CEO, is pleased to report the results of its Annual General Meeting ("AGM") held on August 31, 2008 in Likely, British Columbia.
A total of 32,192,428 shares were represented at the AGM, representing approximately 48% of the outstanding shares. Forty-eight shareholders attended in person, including shareholders from Ontario, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. All of the AGM resolutions passed unanimously on a show of hands, with over 99% voted in favour on proxies.
The majority of the directors elected at the AGM are independent directors. Following the AGM, the Board of Directors appointed three of its independent directors to serve on the Audit Committee and three independent directors to its Compensation Committee.
Following the formal business of the AGM, President/CEO Louis Doyle gave an informative and well received presentation outlining the Company's recent activities on the flagship Frank Creek volcanogenic massive sulphide ("VMS") project as well as short and long term exploration plans for the Frank Creek VMS project, the Blackbear lead, zinc silver project and the Kangaroo gold project.
The forty-eight shareholders who attended the AGM then gathered for lunch at the Company's exploration office in Likely B.C. After viewing some of the recent Frank Creek VMS drillcore, including drillhole FC08-34 with the 4.65 m massive sulphide intersection, (see August 30, 2008 news release BM-08-132) shareholders were taken to the Frank Creek VMS project to view bedrock mineralization exposed in trenches on the Titan Trend "A" target area. The Company's VP of Exploration, Rein Turna P. Geo, guided the tours and gave a well received presentation at the camp on global VMS deposits to put Barker's exploration results into context.
President Louis Doyle stated: "We were extremely pleased to welcome such a large shareholder turnout in Likely. With nearly 50% of the outstanding shares voted at an AGM, this is a strong testament to the Company's vision for the ongoing project exploration as well as support of the Company's solid shareholder base. We are proud and appreciative that our long-term shareholders vote their shares and take such a strong interest in the future of the Company."
The Company also wishes to thank Pacific Corporate Trust, which provided the scrutineer in Likely as well as all others who helped make the weekend a huge success. With the success of the AGM meeting, that also gave an opportunity for shareholders to get a first hand look at the Company's exploration activities, future AGM's in Likely are expected.
