Barker's Trenching Discovers Quartz Vein Mineralization in 10 of 12 Target Areas on its Blackbear Silver/Gold Project

Prince George, B.C., December 17, 2010 -- Barker Minerals Ltd. ("BML" on TSX/V) (the "Company") reports that a previously announced trenching program has been completed on its high-grade silver/gold/lead/bismuth Black Bear project. (see BM-10--163) The trenching resulted in the discovery of numerous mineralized quartz veins in intensely altered host rocks on 10 of 12 target areas tested. The 100% owned project on China Mountain is located 74 km's northeast of Williams Lake, in the Cariboo region of British Columbia. The project has excellent access and infrastructure nearby. (Blackbear Location map)

Approximately 2,000 metres of trenching and stripping of overburden was completed which was successful in exposing numerous mineralized quartz veins in 10 of 12 targets tested. The veins range from centimetres up to 8 metres of exposure and are comprised of persistent pockets of galena and pyrite mineralization along both the footwall and hanging wall, with lesser amounts in the vein material itself.

Quartz vein mineralization extends laterally in some instances over a 150 metre strike length such as at the Providence and Hunt targets specifically. Both of these broad surface target areas also have multiple parallel veins associated with them which significantly enhances their bulk sample potential.

First pass sampling of the host rocks in certain target areas has been completed and if results are favourable further detailed sampling will be conducted as well as exposing extensions of the zones where warranted through further trenching. Fresh galena mineralization was sampled in order to test the tenor and grade of vein related mineralization in the different target areas, as well as within each individual vein system. The analysis is expected to identify geochemical patterns which will help vector to the most prospective high grade silver and gold areas for follow up drilling, and possible bulk sampling.

Of the two trenches which did not expose quartz veins, Trench PS-1 and Trench SCH, Trench PS-1 exposed felsic rocks over the entire 20 metre length and is open in all directions. The felsic rocks in this trench are far less altered than the felsic rocks associated with the vein mineralization. The felsic rocks are mineralized with fine grained disseminated pyrite and other unidentified sulphides which have been sent for analysis to determine base and precious metal content.

Trench SCH was completed over a 60 metre length which exposed the schist capping the Hunt target which was also sampled in order to determine if precious metals are present.

Further details of the various trench locations and descriptions with the analytical results will be provided in a future news release.
