Prince George, B.C., September 1, 2011 -- Barker Minerals Ltd. ("BML" on TSX/V) (the "Company") reports the purchase of a new surface diamond drill to begin testing the large inventory of near surface drill targets defined through past exploration programs. Drilling is to begin on the Frank Creek massive sulphide project in the near future with initial drill targets to be summarized once drilling is underway.
The drill has the capability to drill to a depth of 1200 feet, or 400 metres, of "BTW-BQ" core size, and to 600 feet, or approximately 200 metres of "NQ" core size. This capability will allow the Company to systematically test the numerous near surface drill targets identified to date on its precious and base metal projects.
The portability of the drill will allow for quick and easy moves to and from drill targets as well as to manoeuvre into more difficult target areas. It will also leave a minimal surface disturbance footprint as its helicopter portability eliminates the need for building roads and access trails during initial exploration drilling of prime targets which may be more inaccessible.
It will be valuable for confirmatory drilling where required, as well as for initial drill testing of the many near surface target areas identified by the Geological Survey of Canada geophysical airborne surveys. The surveys were completed in 2009 and cover a majority of Barker's claim area.
