Barker Collects Initial Heavy Mineral Sediment Samples on it's Wasko Diamond Project and Stakes Additional Target

Prince George, B.C., August 20, 2010 -- Barker Minerals Ltd. ("BML" on TSX/V) (the "Company") reports that heavy mineral stream sediment samples have been collected from the Wasko 3 target on its Wasko Diamond Project and that another target has been acquired by staking. The project is located 192 km south of Prince George and 96 km northeast of Williams Lake, in the Cariboo region of British Columbia. (Wasko Property Location Map) The project is accessed by water and is located in an area of past significant barge logging activities. Across Quesnel Lake property development and logging activities provide important nearby access and infrastructure.

The Wasko Diamond project was originally acquired by staking after the release of the results of the Geological Survey of Canada's (GSC) "Likely Radiometric and Magnetic airborne survey" which has identified numerous targets for follow up. One of the most prominent magnetic features over the survey area is a cluster of moderate to high strength circular anomalies which appear to be a cluster of mantle pipes similar to those across the lake at the Tasse Project which has identified diamond indicator minerals and is being evaluated for its diamond potential. (See August 5, 2010 news release (Barker Undertakes Diamond Indicator Sampling Program on its Tasse Diamond Project)

The Wasko 3 target is one of three targets previously staked by Barker and is accessible along the shore of Quesnel Lake. (Tasse and Wasko Clusters of Airborne Magnetic Anomalies)

The stream sediment samples will be sieved down and analyzed for potential diamond indicator grains which would show up after the heavy mineral separation phase. A number of grains from each sample will then be chosen for identification and follow up microprobe studies to determine the geochemistry. The samples collected for analysis from Wasko 3 have heavy mineral concentrates which are very similar in nature to the Tasse heavy mineral concentrates and include a variety of different coloured garnets and associated heavy minerals. (Examples of selected heavy mineral grains recently collected from the Wasko 3 Target. Grains 01, Grains 02)

Recently while heavy mineral sampling of the Wasko 3 target a new volcanic cone was identified and recently staked by Barker and named Wasko 4 target. This newly staked target coincides with a circular airborne magnetic anomaly and was also confirmed by topographical and satellite imagery. (Wasko Project Claim and Target Map)
